What is VoIP?
VoIP is an acronym for "Voice over IP" (Internet Protocol). It allows you to make phone calls using your internet connection and has a number of advantages:
- nexpensive connection fees (free of charge if both parties are using the same VoIP provider)
- No monthly fee for a telephone line
- Receive calls anywhere using a single telephone number (existing numbers can be transferred)
- Switching to VoIP eliminates the need for an analog telephone system

VoIP requirements:
- A broadband internet connection (e. g. ADSL)
- A headset (headphones with a microphone) for better speech comprehension results
- A valid account with a VoIP provider
- The VoIP provider's software must be installed and active on your computer
- Sufficient credit for calls that are subject to a fee
VoIP using Skype

To place a call using Skype, you will need:
- A valid Skype account (see www.skype.com for further details)
- An active, installed copy of Skype on your computer (see Download Skype)
- Skypeout along with the necessary credit (see Skypeout)
